Although not required by law, all dogs and cats should be vaccinated for rabies. Rabies can be transmitted to your pet through a bite wound from another infected mammal. Foxes, coyotes, skunks and bats can carry rabies. Even if your pet doesn’t usually go outside, it is recommended to vaccinate for rabies, because if they escape out of the house, there is a possibility that they may come into contact with a wild animal.
Rabies is a disease that can be passed to humans and is most often fatal. By keeping your pet up-to-date on his or her rabies vaccination, not only are you protecting your pet, but you’re also protecting yourself and other people in your community, and you’re helping to eradicate rabies from the pet population in your community.
